In the not too distant past, there were reports of the iPad 2 supposedly coming with an SD Card slot for external memory expansion. The basis of these rumors was the iPad 2 cases that were leaked a few weeks ago. These cases made by a Chinese vendor had two additional openings (when compared to the current iPad) that were then thought to be of an SD card slot and for a mini display port. While the future of the mini display port on the iPad is debatable, the SD card on the iPad 2 seems unlikely – as told by a source that has contacts inside Apple to AppleInsider who first reported about these cases.
Apparently, the slot on the upper side (which was thought to be the SD card one) would actually be the repositioned SIM cards slot on the 3G version of the iPad 2.
Hmm. So no sign of the iPad 2 getting a memory expansion slot. But we’re sure this won’t put off most Apple fanboys from queuing up for the iPad 2 on the day of its launch.
But then, having an SD card slot isn’t such a bad idea, is it?
